take that might get me yelled at but i feel it strongly:
piracy is better than spotify for musicians , because with piracy no one is operating under the illusion/lie that Musicians Are Financially Supported By It
additionally anyone who has not tried organizing the metadata in a personal library is missing out on one of the most zen and satisfying things you can do on a computer
Building a series of Python scripts and rsync shell scripts to manage my mp3 collection gives me life in a way that I find a little concerning
I just run everything through Musicbrainz Picard and take what it gives me, it's more important to me that everything is consistent and reasonably-completely tagged than to use custom tools to get any particular format. (Also I don't have to maintain custom tools.)
When I was a kid I accidentally 8.3 all of my filenames and I renamed those by hand because I couldn't find good free music library tools for Windows and wasn't yet running Linux XD
